Phillips
County Motor Sports, Inc., sanctioned by International Hot Rod Association
Phil Gingerich, International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Project Manager,
Rockwell, TX. met with Phillips County Motor Sports, Inc. (PCMS) Wednesday,
October 15, 2008, to certify the Hi-Line Drag strip for sanctioning through the
IHRA enabling the group to meet the criteria for the lease through Phillco
Economic Growth Council, Malta, Mt. The Hi-Line Drag strip is the northern most
IHRA track in the U.S.
The track opened for business in June of 2007 with four events during the
season and six events in 2008. The “Big Dollar Race” featuring a $10,000
purse saw 74 entries with the final event of the season hosting 77 cars.
John Carnahan, Track Manager, stated, “This sanctioning by IHRA enables
PCMS to purchase insurance through the company. Drivers will be encouraged to join thereby allowing them
$100,000 coverage during events. The PCMS website will be linked to the IHRA
site showing race dates and other pertinent information.”
Training for the tech’s and chassis certification personnel which check
the vehicles to ensure they meet requirements will be made available for those
wishing to be trained.
IHRA will assist the group with an event entitled “Thunder Jam”
featuring Jet Cars, Alcohol Fuel Funny Cars and Stand-up Cars sometime in the
2009 season.
