The First State Bank of Malta

Phillips County Motor Sports, Inc.
August , 2009 meeting , Thursday at Stretch's Pizza, 7 p.m.

Present: Members Greg Kirkwood, Jim Sandsness, Floyd & Sharon Kindle, Rick Starkey, Bill Rock, Dan Stout, John Carnahan, with guests Greg Smith, Dan Waters, Burt and April Peignuex, and Tom Miller.

Call to order

Sharon Kindle moved to accept the June 2009 (there was no July meeting) minutes as written with a second by Dan Stout and motion adopted.

Treasurer Jim Sandsness gave the report and John Carnahan moved to approve bills to date for payment with a second by Dan Stout and motion adopted. Bill Rock moved to accept treasurer’s report with a second by Rick Starkey and motion adopted.

Old Business:

Large PCMS/Hi-Line Drag strip sign is on going and will be a winter project hopefully ready by spring.

New business:

* Starkey is in charge of procuring information from the IHRA handbook to inform the drivers of proper attire needed for type of vehicle they drive. This will be posted on the web forum and given out at the driver’s meeting prior to each race.

*Rick Starkey agreed to use a ‘hilti’ drill to secure the toilets to the concrete and use stakes if necessary by the beer garden. Perry Dolphay has a pump truck he will use at the track as soon as it is completed. He stated there would be no charge to PCMS for the service of the truck.

*Leroy Dyrdahl will be contacted to put up rest of concrete signs.

*Garren Kirkwood will spray knapweed on pit side.

*It was the general consensus to have Eclectic by Design make two metal signs for tower with radio station 105.1 FM using the blue metal from concrete signs.

*Patricia Snell painted the radio signal on ticket booths and will do the white trailer with the radio signal. A new sign will also be made for the beer garden.

*Tom Miller will donate a fluorescent ceiling light, and install it in bottom of tower.

*There was discussion on speakers on east side by pit gate enabling the drivers to hear the announcer and possibly place one at the southeast corner for the workers in the spectator booth.

*PCMS will search for a person to sell caps, t-shirts, dinner and fundraiser tickets west of the pit spectator grandstands for the remainder of the season.

Future to do list:

~Improve beer garden

~John Carnahan stated more concrete will be determined or paving whichever is more feasible.

~PCMS has the possibility to purchase more toilets and also discussed the possibility of installing permanent restrooms on the spectator side using a hold tank which could be pumped.

~Kindles will work on wooden signs and stakes to show where to park RV’s and campers.

~John Carnahan informed the group 7 more panels (like at the east end of the track) are needed for west end of track.

~The storage shed will be completed when time and money allows. It was thought Bebee’s had an overhead door.

~In the future handrails and more steps on large bleachers will be procured and hopefully shade.

Everyone is urged to sell more concrete signs at $300 each. This sponsors a 10’x12’ section of concrete.

~It was agreed to continue the radio trivia where 5 passes each were given for spectator, pit, and lunch passes.

~Greg Kirkwood had a bid from Dave Ware, Stockman, for dinner at $16 a plate. It was felt this was too high and advised Greg to renegotiate the price. Once this is done, the dinner tickets will be printed to sell at $20 per person. There will be a children 12 and under half price deal.

~Bob Stormer has built a rail car, 292, 6cylinder and wanted to know if PCMS was interested in selling chances to see who could guess the seconds/speed. It was suggested the car be on display for the Sept. 5 & 6 race and possibly sell chances on the car the last race.

~Greg Smith, our photographer, said a boom truck was available to him for taking pictures at a higher angle. It was decided the executive officers would take that up at a later date. It has to be determined where IHRA would allow this.

~Rick Starkey brought up the idea of a “Reaction Box” game for the dinner auction and he and Tom Miller will work on this. We will have the car races as well.

~ Peignuex agreed to collect items for the auction so please inform her if you have an item you want to donate.

There being no further business to come before the board, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Sharon Kindle, secretary
