In the absence of Treasurer Jim Sandsness, John Carnahan read the report.

Sharon Kindle moved to accept the treasurer’s report and Denny Overcast seconded: motion adopted.

PCN (ad) $21.25

The Print Shop $30

Old business:

The concrete was poured on Saturday, May 16 with 330’ on each runway.

The handrails for the pit and beer garden bleachers are painted and ready to be welded on.

Gary Faydo constructed the two sets of steps on spectator bleachers with lumber from the warming house.  Handrails will be made at some time.

John Carnahan reported the construction of road is near completion: a little more leveling, then a grader will be used; the road rolled and gravel applied. Leroy Drydahl has hauled in several loads of gravel.

Tom Miller resealed the picnic tables, he and Wendy hauled garbage and Tom and Rick Starkey used the weed eater around the fence, bleachers and beer garden. James Leo will reinforce the tables that have warped.

The form poured for the memorial and bathrooms on spectator side are done and the granite will be put in place this week with the first memorial being for Matt Holman.

Three $500 scholarships were awarded to Mike Black and Scott Hould of Malta , Robert Kindle of Gt. Falls .

Dan Anderson will finish the siding on the tower when the wind permits.

John Carnahan stated the entrance sign, 7 ½’ x16’, the former football sign board, is being designed by Dylan Bergos and possibly solar powered. Dusty Dowell’s grandfather of Billings will assist with the sign for the finish and his father may possibly have solar panels left over from previous jobs. The price for a sponsorship with a per year contract is $3,000 and $4,000 w/o a contract. Everyone is urged to look for potential sponsors.

New business:

IHRA registration for drivers ($60) due by June 1; can register on line at IHRA.com however Barbour did say if the fee was paid at our first race, June 7, (it is also a points race), you would be in compliance.  For track workers, the fee is $40 and gives you insurance for injuries.

John Carnahan will visit with Welch on using a machine to mark off parking spaces once the road is completed. Carnahan is looking for a powder vs. paint.

Dennis Bebee will bring in his truck with the welder to weld the handrails on the two sets of bleachers.

It wasn’t decided when the steps on bleachers would be sealed and Jim Hasbrouck checked the seats over and said 6 should be replaced. The seats need resealing sometime soon as well.

Finish road on north side

The holes are dug to move the speakers to north side of pit side, but Carnahan requested the speaker by the tower be left in place. Discussion on who to dig the trench for the wires: Mark Boothe will be contacted and see if he could trench for the water line from the hydrant to the track also.

Every evening , and the coming 2 weekends are work days at the track. Track manager said from 5 p.m. till dark on weekdays and all day on weekends. Contact John to see what to work on. Jason Ulrich will do some mowing. The Ford tractor and mower are at the track. (make sure you check the oil regularly when using the tractor.)

The “dip” on the runway is fixed as it is now concrete. Mummy’s  Asphalt will pour a new layer on the west end to match up the runway with the concrete. PCMS has to take the old asphalt out.

The Chamber of Commerce is replacing the sign at the east entrance of Malta (by the pavilion) and will take it down and give it away. There is lumber there for the vinyl signs to be placed on and displayed all season. The chamber will decide who gets the sign as it is by request.

Carnahan stated he has IHRA signs for the tower “face” where the vinyls were last season.

Carnahan said other tracks have a metal running under the bleachers from top to bottom so children can’t fall through the bleachers and it also allows all the garbage to slide to the bottom. He does have some aluminum the track could use for this.

Steve Neiffer and Dan Olson suggested we consider having the front page of the website used for coming and recent events.

John Carnahan moved to allow Greg Smith be our official photographer, wear a lime green vest stating such, and also allow him to sell photos to the public. Rick Starkey seconded and motion adopted. Greg will send the pictures of every car on to PCMS and post on his site as well. Greg will not charge us for this feature.

The decision was made to send all information to Greg Kirkwood for posting items, information, pictures on the website, thereby allowing our webmaster to deal with one person. This would ensure the webmaster knew it was all right to post. (greg.k@kirkwoodfuneralhome.com)

Dan Olson asked about the LED lights and Carnahan has a booklet with the names of people whereby to purchase them. We need 8 amber lights. The port-a-tree will be shortened 1’ as the funny car drivers are not able to see the lights clearly.

Phil Gingerich will arrive June 4 and work with the techs on June 5, Friday and be here through Sunday. It was decided to have our official IHRA sanction race June 7 complete with ribbon cutting ceremonies. It is a points race as well.

Dan Olson stated he visited with Donna Harper about the “box” and if you register with IHRA that you have a box, it stays; you don’t change during the season.

Terry Hines informed Carnahan that the wire needed to run from the tower to the scoreboards, back and across the track is 1350’ and the cost would be about $600-650.

Neil Stahl has loaned PCMS a tractor to pull the box drag with. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of a box drag, contact track manager Carnahan. Leroy Dyrdahl has the iron to make one and Dennis Bebee and Don Snell have been working on a blueprint.

There being no other business to come before the board the meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m.

Sharon Kindle , secretary
