County Motor Sports, Inc. annual corporate meeting, A no-host pizza smorgasbord preceded the annual 2009 corporate meeting, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Stretch’s Pizza. Door prizes were given throughout evening. President Kirkwood called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. with 35 people present, and guests and members were welcomed. Sharon Kindle moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes from 2008 corporate meeting and approve as written with a second from John Carnahan and motion adopted. The treasurer’s report was submitted by treasurer, Jamie Ulrich and read by the president. Old business: The president led the members through the ratifying of the IHRA sanctioning in October of 2008 with a unanimous vote. New business: Corporate report: President Kirkwood gave the 2009 Corporate report (see attachment). Track Manager John Carnahan filled the attendees in on Sherrie Barbour’s March 14 visit, (see attachment). President Kirkwood led the members through ratifying the resolution to borrow for the scoreboards: Whereas,
The Phillips County Motor Sports, Inc. (PCMS) has deemed electronic scoreboards
are a priority, Whereas,
PCMS is doing business as Hi-Line Drag strip, located on 1320 Power Lane, Malta
MT 59538, Whereas,
it is necessary to secure outside funds to obtain said electronic scoreboards, Therefore, be it Resolved, Phillips County Motor Sports, Inc. pursue a loan for said boards with the full approval of the Board of Directors. The members voted unanimously in favor of the resolution. Sharon Kindle introduced her grandson, Terence Snell, and stated he was fulfilling a requirement for the Boy Scout 429 communication patch by attending a corporate meeting. *Track Manager Carnahan informed the group the Flatlanders Car Club, Glasgow, donated $250 for picnic tables for the Hi-Line Drag strip. Plaques will be made and placed on the tables showing sponsorship. The cost per table is $125 for a sponsorship. *He also announced sponsorship had been acquired for the south scoreboard by Westside Self Service/Kid Curry Lounge and Stoghie’s Bar & Grill, Hinsdale. Dylan Bergos, Malta, is in charge of doing the design for the new sponsor. Bergos also designed the 2009 poster and Carnahan ordered large posters which will be distributed around the state. The north scoreboard sign, sponsored by HiLine Ford, Glasgow, will be enlarged so both signs can be easily read from Hwy 191. *Currently there are over 30 concrete sponsors at the cost of $300 each. PCMS will pour 210’ of concrete on each side, hopefully, prior to June 7 and take out the bad spot on the north lane in the pavement. *More north-side parking will be made available as well. *To date, all 14 reserved pit parking spaces are leased for 2009 at $150 each. *Neil Stahl is allowing the use of a tractor for the season and a ‘drag’ will be made from tires and pulled up and down the track to ensure ‘rubber’ is on the track prior to each race for better grip. *Steve Neiffer will be “points man” for the state point races for 2009 PCMS elected two (2) directors as Bill Rock and Rick Starkey have decided not to run for another term. Starkey was applauded by the corporation for being part of the infancy of the track and doing the organizing of the laying of the concrete and the continuous support he has shown. Rock was instrumental in obtaining several $250 lifetime members and is Phillips Co. fire chief and cooperates with the firemen being at the track for each race. Carnahan also announced the First State Bank is donating $100 each to the NWFC drivers in June and the Centennial committee is donating $1,000towards the NWFC, in June. Dennis Bebee and Jamie Ulrich, Malta and Steve Neiffer, Havre were nominated for the board of directors and after hearing no further nominees, Sharon Kindle moved to cease nominations and called for a casting of a unanimous vote with a second from Dan Olson and motion adopted. Ulrich’s two year term expired in 2009 and was up for re-election. Ray Williamson, NWFC, of Fairfield, speaker, stressed the “perspective” aspect of racing in your thoughts, relationships, attitude, and sportsmanship. An example he gave was a fellow racer, Jeff Nelson, Wolf Point, gave him a new oil pump for his car at one of our races as Williamson’s pump was broke. Williamson will present Nelson with a new pump. He praised our enthusiasm in providing a track so quickly and the friendly accommodations. He closed with the statement “You can build a house and put people in it, but you guys have built a house” for the drag racers to come and enjoy. He will put together a package for a giveaway for a free weekend with room accommodations at a race the NWFC are performing at in 2010. Terry Dockter, Havre, NWFC, was also present. PCMS extends a thank you to securing Williamson for a speaker. There being not further business to come before the board, the meeting was set aside and the board of directors met to elect new officers of PCMS for 2009. Greg Kirkwood was re-elected as president, John Carnahan as vice-president, Sharon Kindle as secretary, and Jim Sandsness was elected as treasurer as former treasurer Jamie Ulrich wished to remain just as a director. Don Snell moved to cease nominations as no other nominees were named and cast a unanimous ballot for the offices with a second by Steve Neiffer and motion adopted. Note: if
anyone is in need of posters for the 2009 season or the business card size race
schedules, please contact Carnahan at 654-1477. The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. Sharon Kindle, secretary |
