Phillips County Motorsports, Inc.,

 Thursday, January 15 2009 meeting, 

7 p.m. at Stretch’s preceded by the “Eat and Meet”. Present were Greg Kirkwood, Floyd and Sharon Kindle, Jamie Ulrich, Don Snell, Bill Rock, Dan Waters, Dan Stout, Dan Olson, Brad Olson, Don Wilkins, Dave Nissen, Mike Nissen, and Denny Overcast.

President Kirkwood called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Sharon Kindle moved to dispense with the reading of the Oct. 2008 minutes and accept them as written with a second by Dan Olson and motion adopted.

Treasurer Ulrich gave the treasurer’s report.

Don Snell  moved to pay $7.25 to Moore’s Printing (printing of picture ID’s)with a second by Dan Olson and motion adopted.

 

Old business:

Chad Bebee was not present, however, President Kirkwood stated there is Insurance for buildings, etc. at the track. Bebee will attend the Feb meeting.

The rest  of the warming house will be moved as soon as weather permits.

Phil Gingerich said IHRA sells the LED lights for port-a-tree and Dan Olson will keep in touch with him.               

The NOW account at First State Bank pays .65% on all checking accounts with a $1,000 balance. It was the consensus of the group to leave the checking account as is.

A  National Guard person had visited with the secretary on use of track for training, but have not gotten a name and phone number as yet. President Kirkwood will check on this.          

Dan Olson reported on marking 15’ wide parking spots at the track with a fee of $100 per season. The back lots would be 30’ wide to accommodate trailers, motorhomes, etc. John Carnahan and he will work on this project.

Dan Olson will check on the sanitized toweletts or hand sanitizer for bathrooms with the gentleman in Glasgow who handles the port-a-potties.

President Kirkwood stated IHRA would like to see more fence on the west end. After discussion, it was the consensus for the group to do the fencing.

The secretary will get the concrete info to Don Snell for Brown’s Transmission on purchase of concrete sign.

President Kirkwood stated the county attorney said if we placed a sign with the wording “only licensed drivers may operated motorized units on the Hi-Line Dragstrip”, we should be all right.  This regulations concerning non-licensed drivers on 4-wheelers presented a problem during the 2008 season.

Denny Overcast has the Budwieser sign for the 2009 races to be displayed at the underpass on his list for 2009.

Treasurer Ulrich stated Janet Dunbar hasn’t assisted her with the setting up of books as yet.

Denny Overcast plans on doing EMT training towards spring. He visited with IHRA and said their efforts had not been too successful with the training, however, Overcast will work with Terri Robinson and Bill Rock.

Rick Starkey is in charge of the “Win” light and was not present at the meeting.

PCMS has 575’ of guard rail at OMO Construction in Billings if anyone has plans of going that way with a trailer.

Dan Olson stated the forum on PCMS website is in a ‘slack time’ now with the off-season but is a good site.

New business:

The discussion on leaving the lifetime membership dues at $250 was met with agreement.

President Kirkwood will send in the information to the National Speedway Directory for Hi-Line Dragstrip.

President Kirkwood will contact Brad (1-800-813-6366/bmgjdiesel@mcn.net) about  diesel racing at the track. It was felt this was an ‘up and coming’ idea.

At present, no decision was made on the KMMR radio auction coming in Feb but may put something on there.

President Kirkwood would like to have John Carnahan attend the State Board meeting for MT Drag Racing Assc. in Butte Feb 13 & 14.

Members will  place fence rails on grandstand and hand rail on other grandstands to meet sanctioning requirements.

Don Wilkins to have Dusty Dowell paint the v-shaped sign for the strip saying “Phillips County Motor Sports, etc” in lieu of a $75 family membership with a second by Bill Rock and motion adopted.

2009 race dates are: June 6 car show with test and tune Sat p.m. and race June 7 and the North West Funny Cars; July 18 & 19 (Don Wilkins will keep us informed on a performance with Terry Docktor) Aug 15 & 16; Sept 5 & 6 and Sept 19 & 20 as the fundraiser and auction and possible the Big Dollar Race. IHRA may assist with one race. The question was raised about having an Ironman Race.

John Carnahan has several cars lined up for chassis certifier Dave Schaffel to certify cars perhaps in Malta.

Harlem Seed Show is Mar 12-14 and will feature a car show. Overcast asked if a race car or two could be present. Kirkwood will have his digital picture frame with the last race on it for the booth. IHRA is to send items to us. The secretary will have Eclectic by Design make caps and t-shirts for sale and give-a-ways.

The City Hall, caterer, and auctioneer have been secured for PCMS dinner/auction Sept 19.

Don Wilkins will visit with North West Funny Cars Brent Jones and Ray Williamson and see which Sat in March would work for them to be our speaker(s) at the corporate meeting to be held at Stretch’s.

Dues are due now and must be a paid up member to vote/run for office. $50 individuals; $75 family (children up to 18) and $250 lifetime.

We will do four scholarships for 2009. We have paid $500 out so far from 2008.

FYI—We have $460 in credit at Ready Mix from the KMMR auction and $995 credit with Adams’ Asphalt.

FYI—Shriners and Westside (Ereaux) will sponsor $100 ‘perfect light’ for 2009

FYI—have we received any money from Southside Storage for the concrete? ($300)

FYI—Scott Robinson will sponsor 2 concrete signs

FYI—we have $3600 in paid concrete sponsorships

FYI—have 3 CD’s of official rule book left@$10.00

Travel Montana (Dept of Commerce) has asked for an update on the track and the information will be sent it.

Feb 19 meeting at the Plainsman, east of Havre (Don Wilkins is in charge) March corporate meeting at Stretch’s in Malta; April 16 meeting in Glasgow with place to be announced; May 21 meeting in Malta.

There being no other business to come before the board Sharon Kindle moved to adjourn with a second by Don Snell and motion adopted.
