Phillips County
Motor Sports Inc President Greg Kirkwood called the regular meeting of Phillips County Motor Sports, Inc to order at 8 p.m. Thursday May 15, 2008 at the Glasgow Elks Lodge. Guests and members were welcomed and Dan Olson was thanked for setting up the meeting. There were around 25+ in attendance. Minutes and treasurer’s reports were dispensed with, as this is an informational meeting only. John Carnahan gave an update on Rick Starkey and Jamie Ulrich shared a Great Falls Tribune article with the group how his twin daughters’ graduation would be available to Starkey via the internet. Greg Kirkwood updated everyone on the track situation as follows: The former “warming shed” was cut in half with the piece with the overhang taken to the drag strip to be used as the tower. A concrete slab will be poured on Monday, May 19, 2008, then, a bottom unit will be constructed with doorways and windows and placed on the concrete slab. A ‘scissor’ truck will be used to lift the tower section onto the bottom. The complete unit will be faced with blue tin and a tin roof. The remainder of building will be placed at the southeast corner of the staging area and used for storage for the port-a-potties. The staging area will only have units who are lined up for racing their event. At some time, a “cage” will be erected for the starter’s protection. Bittercreek Piplelines and Noble Energy will do a workday on May 23 to install the second rail on the track. The rails will be extended to 1100’ by June and the plans are to continue as guardrail becomes available. All cracks were sealed on the west end of the track, Century Paving of Lewistown put down sealant in the fall of 2007, sand has been applied, then it will be rolled and swept. The turn out will be at 1100’ and all units will return on pavement out side the north rail. There will also be turnouts at 1500’ and 2000’ for the faster units. Workday at the track will be Saturday, May 24 (however if anyone is able, they are welcome on Friday, May 23, 2008) show up around 9-9:30 and there will be something for you to do. Scoreboards were discussed and the unanimous decision was to go with Spectrum, which works with our timer’s equipment. Read outs will be instantaneous. The units will be blue with LED lights. For more info, contact Greg Kirkwood. During questions, it was asked if a test and tune would be available on Saturday evening June 7. John Carnahan said he would check with the ambulance and fire department to see if they would be available. There would be a charge for test and tune to cover our expenses. The time, if held, would be 4:30 – 7 p.m. When you enter a unit in the First State Bank car show June 7, it is $5 each or $10 for 2 or more. First State Bank returns all entry fees to PCMS. The North West Funny Cars, 4-6 will do a performance on June 8th. Carnahan also stated there would be other alcohol cars present. Another question was the minimum age for junior junior dragsters. It is eight years of age. A question regarding if snowmobiles would be permissible for the June event and Carnahan answered in the affirmative. Involving high school students was brought up and every effort will be made to involve them if possible. A tree planter is available and we need to come up with trees, which can be transplanted at the track. The meeting was adjourned at 9 p.m. and a tour of shops followed allowing attendees to see classic and dragster units. (Pictures are available on the website as well as the attendees at the dinner and meeting.) Next regular meeting will be Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Stretch’s Pizza at 6:30 for an “eat & meet” meeting for those wishing to eat prior to meeting. This was brought up as Stretch’s allows us to use the meeting room free of charge and this would be a way of showing our gratitude for that privilege. Sharon Kindle, secretary |
